SPECIAL EDITORIAL NOTE FROM SPORTS_NUT, 2/26/2011
.
Welcome to the retirement edition of Funny Sports Quotes.
.
The Funny Sports Quotes blog was created in 11/2007 after I could see I could become a blogger very easily using Google's 3-step process for creating a blog online.
.
For me, like most, work is not my idea of a fun experience, so I had to choose the topic that I would most enjoy pursuing and that, for me, was finding and posting funny sports quotes for entertaining and, in some cases, educating an audience on facets of sports even the most ardent sports fans may not have been aware of.
.
At the same time, I decided to compile a database of funny sports quotes that sports fans and quote fans could visit for "one-stop" shopping, thereby helping them to avoid the need to search elsewhere for sports quotes.
.
So, from 11/2007 until 2/2011. I have compiled quotes on the Funny Sports Quotes blog and its sister blog, FSQuotes, that is accessible only from the Funny Sports Quotes blog.
.
As of 2/26/2011, I believe I have achieved my objective first set in 11/2007, which signals for me the end of my funny sports quotes database project.
.
Kindly note that I have already made the last post (SI Swimsuit) to the blog, shut off further entries to Comments, and I will shut off the email address sports.quotes@gmail.com on 03/14/2011.
.
Also note that many features previously cited on this page have been removed, so that a bare-bones FSQ remains for your future reference.
.
I do hope that my venture was successful in bringing a smile to your face or a skip to your step, since that was all FSQ was created for, your entertainment and pleasure.
.
In closing, I wish you and yours, Godspeed!

FUNNY SPORTS QUOTES \ Source: hockeydirt.com

 Double Drafted

Most of the coverage of Luc Robitaille's impending retirement mentions the fact that Luc was selected by the Kings in 1984 after Tom Glavine.  Glavine of course went on to star as a pitcher with the Atlanta Braves & more recently with the Mets.

From what I can tell, Glavine is the only player ever drafted to play in both the NHL & another of the "big 4" pro sports.  This of course leads to a list of players who were double or triple drafted.  This is the complete and definitive list ....right.  Please pass on any additions.

(OT addition - as CW points out there is another player drafted to the NHL and another pro sport.  Kirk McCaskill was drafted in 1981 by the Winnipeg Jets & by the California Angels in 1982. )

  • Dave Winfield MLB (San Diego Padres) & NFL (Minnesota Vikings) & NBA (Seattle Supersonics) (Winfield was also taken by the Utah Stars of the ABA)
  • John Havlicek NBA (Celtics) & NFL (Cleveland Browns)
  • John Lynch (NFL (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) & MLB (Florida Marlins)
  • Bill Swiacki MLB (LA Dodgers) and NFL (NY Giants)
  • Kirk Gibson MLB (Detroit Tigers) & NFL (St. Louis Cardinals)
  • John Elway NFL (Baltimore Colts) & MLB (NY Yankees)
  • Tony Gwynn MLB (San Diego Padres) & NBA (San Diego Clippers) (drafted by both on the same day)
  • Tom Glavine (MLB (Atlanta Braves) & NHL (LA Kings)
  • Pat Riley NBA (LA Lakers) & NFL (Dallas Cowboys)
  • Sonny Siebert MLB (Cleveland Indians) & NBA (St. Louis Hawks)
  • Antwaan Randle El NFL (Pittsburgh Steelers) & MLB (Chicago Cubs)
  • Bo Jackson MLB (KC Royals) & NFL (Oakland Raiders)
  • Charlie Ward NBA (NY Knicks) & MLB (Milwaulkee Brewers) (was not drafted by the NFL despite winning the Heisman)
  • Deion Sanders MLB (NY Yankees) & NFL (Atlanta Falcons)
  • Danny Ainge MLB (Toronto Blue Jays) & NBA (Boston Celtics)
  • Mark Hendrickson MLB (Toronto Blue Jays) & NBA (Philadelphia 76ers)
  • Ryan Minor MLB (Baltimore Orioles) & NBA  (Philadelphia 76ers)
  • Scott Burrell NBA (Charlotte Hornets) & MLB (Seattle Mariners) (Burrell was a first rounder in both drafts)
  • Ed Maras NFL (Green Bay Packers) & MLB (Baltomore Orioles)
  • Drew Henson NFL (Houston Texans) & MLB (NY Yankees)
  • Mike Prior MLB (LA Dodgers) & NFL (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
  • John Shoemaker MLB (LA Dodgers) & NBA (Chicago Bulls)
  • Darian Hagan NFL (San Francisco 49ers) & MLB (Toronto Blue Jays)
  • Dan Marino NFL (Miami Dolphins) & MLB (KC Royals)
  • Russ Francis NFL (NE Patriots) & MLB (KC Royals)
  • Archie Manning NFL (New Orleans Saints) & MLB (KC Royals)

Note - of course there are plenty of players who were selected by the NBA & ABA or by the NHL & WHA, but I am less interested in hearing about those players - unless of course there is someone who knows about a phenom selected by both the ABA & the WHA!
